This dessert is a crowd pleaser — and so easy! It is warm both because it is best served warm and because of the warm spices. This recipe makes a very large batch — but this is good as both a dessert or for breakfast so you want a big batch because it goes quick.
Warm Pear Compote
Ingredients:
8 pears cut into chunks
12 dates chopped small
3/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1 cup water
sliced almonds for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Place all ingredients except almonds in a large sauce pan and bring to a simmer.
- Simmer uncovered for about 10 to 15 minutes until pears are softened.
- Serve warm, sprinkled with sliced almonds.
If you don’t have pumpkin pie spice you can just use cinnamon. Sometimes I will also add some ginger. I use a knife to take the tops and tails off the pears, and then a melon baller to take out the core:
I also use a melon baller to get the guts out of acorn squash, butternut squash and other winter squashes. It is sharper than a spoon and I think it does a better job scrapping all the stringy stuff out. It is perfect for pears. And it makes great melon balls! 😉
Here is the finished product:
Make a batch of this today — you will love it!
